It is with
distinct pleasure that I welcome everyone to the 16th Malaysia
Toray Science Foundation (MTSF) Prize Presentation Ceremony,
after another fruitful year in operation.
Over the
last 16 years, MTSF has earnestly carried out numerous
activities to promote science and technology in Malaysia. 2009
was a particularly busy and fruitful year for us. During the
year, six “Science Education Award (SEA) Road Shows” for science
teachers were organised in different states of Malaysia while
three Road Shows were held in tertiary institutions within Kuala
Lumpur to promote the “Science & Technology Award (STA)” and
“Science & Technology Research Grant (STRG)” programmes. MTSF
also published a compilation book on past STA winners and STRG
projects while a Symposium / Reporting Session will be organized
for past grantees to present their findings.
It is
heartening to note that MTSF has successfully generated much
interests and enthusiasm among Malaysian science educators,
science researchers and scientists. In 2009, the number of
applications for the SEA and STA has almost doubled while that
of the STRG has tripled compared to those in the previous year.
Our success
story is attributable to the staunch support and close
collaboration rendered by both the public and private sectors.
For that, I would like to express our sincere thanks and
appreciation to the Ministry of Science, Technology and
Innovation, the Ministry of Education, government agencies,
organizations and other individuals. My sincere thanks also go
to the Chairmen, members of the MTSF Selection and Examination
Committees and the secretariat for their tireless dedication and
efforts.
Lastly, I
extend my heartiest congratulations to all awardees and grantees
for their outstanding achievements. Keep up the good work.
