It gives me great
pleasure to pen a message in conjunction with the 16th Prize
Presentation Ceremony of Malaysia Toray Science Foundation
(MTSF). I wish to congratulate all the Malaysian scientists,
researchers and educators who will be receiving their grants and
cash awards on this auspicious occasion.
The acquisition and
advancement of knowledge is undoubtedly a more powerful weapon
in a nation's arsenal than any missile or mine. Like any other
nation, Malaysia needs to develop indigenous science and
technology and build a critical mass of scientists and
technicians to exploit its vast natural resources. Having a core
of creative scientists able to make the best choices of
available technology, based on the needs of our country is
critical for the long-term economic development and success of
Malaysia.
Realising the need
for our nation to be innovative, the Ministry of Science,
Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) is strategising the direction
of the Ministry's key performance indicators (KPI) with a view
to helping the country achieve its national vision and mission.
Besides funding scientific research and promoting innovation,
the Government aims to transform the innovations, get them into
the market place to create wealth and ensure they ultimately
touch people's lives, consistent with the 1Malaysia mission.
It is therefore my
hope that MTSF will continue to complement the Government’s
efforts by providing a platform for Malaysians to seek knowledge
and nurture innovation and creativity.
"Championing scientific discovery, transforming innovation."
