On October 24th, 2023, Malaysia Toray Science Foundation (MTSF) organised its 30th Prize Presentation Ceremony at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Hosted by MTSF Chairman Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Omar Abdul Rahman and Toray Industries, Inc.’s Chief Representative for Malaysia Dato’ Teh Hock Soon, the Ceremony was attended by some 140 guests.
Among the honourable guests who graced the ceremony were Mr. Chang Lih Kang, the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), His Excellency Katsuhiko Takahashi, the Ambassador of Japan to Malaysia and Mr. Shigeki Taniguchi, Senior Vice President of Toray Industries, Inc., Japan.
During their speeches, Minister Chang and Ambassador Takahashi congratulated MTSF for the great contributions and successes achieved over the past 30 decades. Mr. Taniguchi, who spoke on behalf of MTSF Honorary Chairman Dato’ Nikkaku, renewed Toray’s commitment to support the development of science and technology in Malaysia based on the corporate philosophy, “Contributing to society through the creation of new value with innovative ideas, technologies and products”.
During the ceremony, the 30th Anniversary Booklet was unveiled, and anniversary cake cut by Minister Chang to commemorate the significant milestone. For 2023, a total of 309,000 Malaysian Ringgit in prize money and grants were awarded to 27 recipients, including 2 scientists, 12 young researchers, and 13 science teachers. After the ceremony, VIPs and guests toured the exhibit which introduced the recipients’ winning projects.
