As a follow up to the Selection Meeting held in July 2018 where 30 candidates were shortlisted from the total 672 nominations received, MTSF conducted its Interview Sessions in Kuala Lumpur recently.

Comprising 3 Malaysian scientists, 12 young researchers and 15 Science educators, the interviewees presented themselves before the two respective Selection and Examination Committees over two days from 18th to 19th September 2018. The face-to-face interactions allow the judges to evaluate the respective scientific achievements, contributions and research proposals better, before recommending them to the MTSF Board for the respective MTSF awards and grants.

Specifically, the two Committees are tasked to finalise the recipients, as follow:

  1. Two winners for the “Science and Technology Award” in respect of their past scientific achievements. The award carries a monetary of RM30,000 each.
  2. Twelve researchers for the “Science & Technology Research Grants” pertaining to the proposed research projects. The grant is limited to RM60,000 each (including 5 to 10 grants from Toray Science Foundation, Japan worth Japanese Yen 5 million).
  3. Fifteen school teachers/educators for the “Science Education Award” in respect of their innovative science teaching methods. The prizes range from RM2,000 to RM6,000 each.

The winners will be duly notified to receive their respective awards/grants at the 25nd Prize Presentation Ceremony scheduled on 29th November 2018 in Kuala Lumpur.
