Malaysia Toray Science Foundation (MTSF) successfully organised its 31st Prize Presentation Ceremony on 5th November 2024 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with the kind presence of the honourable guest of honour Mr. Chang Lih Kang, the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI). Hosted jointly by MTSF Director Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Augustine Ong and Toray Chief Representative in Malaysia Teh Hock Soon, the ceremony was well attended by approximately 120 guests, including Mr. Atsushi Karimata, Chargé d'affaires ad interim, Embassy of Japan in Malaysia and Dato’ Akihiro Nikkaku, the Honorary Chairman of MTSF and Chairman of Toray Industries, Inc., Japan.
During the ceremony, both Minister Chang and Mr. Karimata praised MTSF for its significant contribution to the development of science and technology in Malaysia over the past 3 decades. On behalf of Toray, Dato’ Nikkaku expressed its gratitude to the Malaysian government, especially MOSTI and the Ministry of Education, for their continuous cooperation and support. He also reaffirmed Toray’s commitments to continue support the development of science and technology in Malaysia under its corporate philosophy “Contributing to society through the creation of new value with innovative ideas, technologies, and products”.
For 2024, some 277 thousand Malaysian Ringgit in prize money and grants were awarded by Minister Chang to 25 recipients, including 1 scientist, 9 young researchers, and 15 science teachers. At the conclusion of the ceremony, the guests were invited to tour the exhibits which introduced the winners' achievements and research projects.
